The simple rolled brass tone ring on this banjo gives it a bit more brightness and cutting power than a wooden tone ring but still results in a fairly mellow open tone when compared to a tubaphone or whyte laydie.
The fretboard inlay design is taken from an illustration by L.W.R. Wenckebach for In De Muizenwereld (In mouse-land) by Agatha Snellen, published in the Netherlands in 1894. The Heel inlay is a chisel and a wood working knife crossed over each other.
